From preliminart studies to granting of contract

SUMMARY
From preliminart studies to granting of contract
The present wooden bridge does not cope anymore with the varied traffic, because of its too small width and capacity and also from the hydraulic viewpoint it is not suitable. Thorough study has shown that from the four alternatives, the most appropriate location for the new bridge is at ap-proximatively the middle between the wooden road bridge and the railway bridge. One advantage besides others of this location is that at the same time the bridge serves for local as well as for transit traffic. On basis of the approved investment programme, a competition was advertised for bids of draft projects. Ten designers took part to the competition. The results of the latter were given in detail in the organ of the Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians of Slovenia: »Gradbeni Vestnik« 1956-57, Nos. 47—50.
Four designers submitted the main projects, namely one providing the bridge to be in reinforced concrete, two in prestressed concrete and one in steel. The survey of the main projects has shown that the cheapest bridge was the one in reinforced concrete according to the main project based on the draft project that was awarded the first prize. At the adjudication the four main projects were available to the tenderers.
The lowest tender was submitted by the civil engineering firm »Tehnogradnje«, Vuzenica, which proposed to built the bridge in prestressed concrete according to their own project providing for a cantilevertype bridge. Because this tenderer was also favourable as to its technical staff and mechanization, it was granted the contract.
