Some thougs on completion of new bridge at Ptuj
By its size as well as by the modern principles applied to its construction, the new bridge at Ptuj is one of the most interesting bridges in Yugoslavia and also from the international viewpoint it can be considered as an important achievement in the construction of similar works.
The bridge represents a significant success of designing and erection underlined by its aesthetic appearance and its sound high-quality workmanship, which was achieved with relatively low expenses. The experience gained with the building of the bridge can be utilized for the construction of further similar structures, which will be a further success from the economical standpoint.
The bridge was designed and built on basis of relatively small experience in the field of prestressed structures and therefore various experiments were carried out during the construction. To improve our experience, particularly regarding the contraction and creeping of concrete, periodic measurements on the bridge are to be made and will give useful information for the future designing and construction of such works.
The new bridge represents a high-quality structure which documents the technical level of our civil engineering from the design as well as from the constructional viewpoint and it proves that our civil engineering can at any rate be acknowledged to reach the international level.
