INTERNATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SLOVENIAN ROAD NETWORK

Synopsis
The most important question for the traffic role of a space is, which different natural, economical, cultural or tourist domains does it connect. The geographical situation of Slovenian territory is important in this respect. Slovenia connects five different geographic territories namely: Alpine region, Paunonian lowland, Balkans, Mediterranean, and North Italian lowland. The article considers in detail the role of the transit traffic of Slovenia and international significance of our roads. It states that more than 90 per-
cent of tourists coming in Yugoslavia cross the frontier in Slovenia. The author stresses the importance of the prospective expressway Šentilj—Gorica parti-culary in relation to some highways existing or under construction in the vicinity of Slovenia. The article contains all basic facts illustrating the international traffic and geografic imporance of Slovenian territory, with special regard to the connection of both frontiers in Slovene Styria and Adriatic Littoral.
