Main characteristics of the hydroelectric power plant HE Srednja Drava I

 

Synopsis
Investment program for the power plant Srednja Drava 1 has been adopted in November 1962 and the auction for the construction of the dam, feed canal, machine house and draining canal has been effected in 1964. During to the barrage erected, the water level of the river Drava swelled for 6 or 7 meters. This in turn gave rise to a very important problem from the technical point of view: the protection of the low-lying parts of the town of Maribor. All pertinent work hao been completed before November 1964. A very difficult technical problem in constructing of accumulation bassin presented the protection of the banks along the river Drava. In a length of 7 kilometers a mass of netrly 180.000 m3 of gravel has been built in, more than 25.000 m3 of coating with stone and nearly
63.000 m3 of rock revetment. The barrage structure has been completed in two stages. In the first stage the company »Tehnograđnje« erected three dam piers, three discharge fields, one power house on the right
river bank and three dam-bridges. In the year 1967 the company started wiith the construction of a auxiliary barrage of the second pit and completed it before March 1968. For these structures more than 90.000 m3 of material have been excavated, 53.000 m3 of planking wood applied, 685 tons of steel reinforcement laid down and more than 75.000 m3 of concrete built in. The excavation of the delivery canal and of machine house began in August 1964. The later was completed in July 1968. A mass of some 560.000 m3 was excavated,
65.000 m3 of concrete used and 3450 tons of reinforced stell laid. The mass of excavated material for the delivery canal amounted to 4,600.000 m3 of pebble. After completion of such extensive work the first generating set having a power of 30 MW could be connected to the electric network on the 21st of November 1968. Until the 10th of December 1968 a power of 50 MW could be made possible i. e. an energy output of nearly 1 million hilowatt-hours per day.
