Ductility of cohesive soils determined on linear tensile test specimens

Synopsis
In the article the results are given of the ductility tests performed on the clay to be built in the core of the rockfill dam Sklope of the Hydroelectric Power Station Senj. The tests were carried out on the tensile test specimens being in the horizontal position. In order to reduce the influence of friction on the bottom the specimens were put on roller bearings using in-
termediate supporting beams. The tests, which were carried out as quick ones, with a loading velocity of v = 100 p/min, prove that the ductility (the value of the maximum tensile strain immediatly before the failure) increases with the increasing moisture content w from £n = 0 at w = 27®/», to £n = 0,0025 at w = 39 °/o.
