Cleaning of waste water in oxidizing ditches
The article describes the development of oxidizing ditches and their design principles. The stretched out length of the ditch must not exceed 110 m, the curvature radius of the profile center shall be 3—5 m, the wet section about 3 m2, and water depth 1 m.
The author specifies the single so far known systems of ditches and their characteristics, as well as the experiences gained by using them. He also explains advantages and disadvantages of various systems. On basis of these experiences he proposes the following arrangement:
The double ditch IDc, to which up to 2.500 units can be connected; the piling ditches IIA-B with aeration automatically adjusted to the fouling degree and variation of the waste water quantity; the IC with a settling tank to retain mud. The designs IA, IB and IDa are less favourable.
